The Blue Valley Recreation Commission is committed to provide high quality recreation facilities and programs that serve the Overland Park and surrounding community. To build on this legacy, the BVRC desired a Needs Assessment and Strategic Plan to establish a long-term plan focusing on sustainability and maximizing resources while providing an appropriate level/balance of recreation facilities and programs throughout the community. The Strategic Plan replaces the adopted 2008 Strategic Plan and creates a new “road map” for the BVRC to follow for the next ten years.
BVRC serves a population of approximately 140,000 and is a problem solver in the community. BVRC provides educational training and active participation in the battle against childhood obesity; brings an economic impact to the community; contribute to a sustainable existence through educational classes and recycling opportunities; facilitate social interaction; develop analytic and cognitive skills; save lives through Learn-to-Swim classes; decrease crime; boost property value; and address the growing needs of the 55 and up population.
BVRC enriches the lives of the community through hundreds of youth and adult programs, classes, activities, and sport leagues. Facilities for these activities include the 24-field Sports Complex, the Activity Center/Indoor Pool that provides programming for all ages, and the 100,000 square foot Recreation Center, along with various school district facilities.
This Strategic Plan followed a process of data collection, community input, on-the-ground study, assessment of existing programs, historical financial review, market research, and open dialogue with local leadership and key stakeholders.
