This county-wide Parks and Recreation master Plan plan serves as a guiding framework, translating community aspirations into actionable recommendations to ensure the continuation of high-quality services for the Washtenaw community. The Master Plan was crafted through extensive community engagement, including community focus groups, key stakeholder interviews, public forums, and a statistically valid community needs analysis survey, alongside an online survey and interactive website open to all residents and visitors. Throughout the community engagement process, WCPARC intentionally connected with historically underserved and underrepresented communities across the county to ensure diverse community involvement. Naturally, this Master Plan responds to the dynamic shifts within the Washtenaw County community since the adoption of the previous plan in 2019, and, by merging insights gleaned from these interactions with the community, and various technical analysis, the final Master Plan emerged.
“Every five years Parks and Recreation departments around the state prepare a recreation master plan and submit it to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. It makes us eligible for grants, and it also guides our planning purposes. The strategic portion is really looking organizationally, how we will be sustainable. It is looking at funding sources, our organizational chart, long-term planning, where do we want to see ourselves.”
