In Summer 2023, the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department contracted PROS Consulting, along with WRT, Able City, and ETC Institute to create a Youth Services Master Plan.
The goals of this Master Plan that the Department and consultant team set out to achieve included:
- Develop a comprehensive plan to guide programming and investments in Youth Services.
- Involve the community and staff in planning and decision making through pop-up events, interviews, focus groups, surveys, and hands on activities.
- Provide a comprehensive strategy where programming meets an ecosystem of youth services and infrastructure, and relies on data for equitable practices.
- Ensure a coordinated vision and common framework for future youth programs, services, synergies with other departments and partners, and investments as San Antonio’s population continues to grow and evolve.
Ultimately, the plan developed resulted in several actionable short-term and long-term goals to improve San Antonio’s youth service functions. These steps included increased coordination with local school districts to expand the success of youth programs, coordination with bike and mobility planning to ensure that equitable transport to Department programs was ensured, and an increase in utilized funding and revenue strategies by the Department to further fund quality community centers and facilities where youth programming is hosted.
