The Cullman Parks, Recreation, and Sports Tourism Department maintains 1,662 acres of public lands within the city which includes developed parklands, undeveloped parklands, open space, trails, and public facilities and rights-of-way; this system is robust, especially considering the size of their community (with a population of around 20,000 people). As a Department, they have paired their large system with ample maintenance and superior management practices to create several amenities that punch well above their weight class, including a state of the art WildWater Water Park that brings in enough revenue to nearly support the Department’s budget on its own.
This Cullman Parks and Recreation Master Plan establishes a long-term plan focusing on sustainability and maximizing resources while providing an appropriate balance of facilities and amenities throughout the Cullman community. In essence, those amenities that the Department manages so well were plotted within this plan to ensure that recreation facilities, parks, trails, golf courses, and other amenities received what was necessary to create sustained success for the next decade of Cullman Parks and Recreation.
