The Clark County Parks and Recreation Department was organized by the Board of County Commissioners in 1963
with the charge to assess the recreational needs of the community. With 62 years of service in the rear-view mirror
and more than 300 days of sunshine annually, the Department remains a vibrant organization working to identify
and provide for the recreational experiences of residents and visitors alike. Clark County Parks and Recreation is
home to a host of indoor and outdoor activities.
Overall, the Department provides Southern Nevada with sixteen urban recreation and community centers, including three centers devoted solely to seniors; fourteen pool facilities with seven water parks and five indoor, year-round pools; ten skate parks, seven dog parks and over 100 public parks with everything from picnic amenities to ball fields, playgrounds, and water features. The Department also offers recreation services in rural areas including Laughlin,
Searchlight, Cal-Nev-Ari, Moapa Valley, Moapa, Bunkerville, Indian Springs, Sandy Valley, and Goodsprings. Facilities include recreation centers, pools and more, while Department programs include aquatic classes, sports, special events, special interest classes and a before and after school enrichment program known as Safekey. When school is not in session, numerous camps and programs abound.
The 2025 Clark County Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan (Strategic Plan) serves as a strategic guide for aligning community priorities with the County’s decision-making over the next decade. Developed through extensive public engagement in 2023-2024, the plan evaluates the current state of Clark County’s parks and recreation system, identifies key focus areas for long-term development, and integrates community input with technical research to establish strategic recommendations.
Through a comprehensive outreach process, including public forums, surveys, stakeholder interviews, and participation in local events, the plan reflects the community’s vision while ensuring financial sustainability and enhancing park assets, amenities, and user experiences. Grounded in recognized park planning principles and standards, it provides a clear roadmap for future investments in parks, recreational facilities, and programs.
